Today we celebrate International Women's Day, the day that also marks the second anniversary of our coalition.
In those two years, our coalition has grown and women's sexual and reproductive rights have been placed on the national agenda.
When it comes to abortion, in the last year, the pandemic has shown even more clearly how isolated Malta is. With a global shortage of contraceptives, rise in domestic violence, job loss and income insecurity, the need for abortions may have increased. In Malta, barriers to accessing abortions have always existed – for some more than others – but these were further exposed and intensified because of COVID-19.
We promise to continue to work more and harder until all women's rights are respected and acknowledged in Malta, especially women's right to chose their sexual and reproductive freedom.
